Chase Luensman (165-pounds) concluded his wrestling career at Upper Iowa with a second-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Park City, Kan. The senior ceases his Peacock career as a 2024 Runner-up, a 2023 National Champion, a three-time All-American and a four-time NCAA Qualifier.
In the championship bout, Luensman faced the number-one seeded David Hunsberger of Lander, battling until the final second and coming out on the wrong side of a tough-fought match in an 8-6 decision.
Hunsberger struck first and jumped out to a 3-0 lead with the initial takedown but Luensman grabbed the escape point shortly after. Luensman was on the bottom in the second round, and escaped to trail 3-2. Lander executed another takedown for the 6-2 lead. Hunsberger collected two escape points in the third round while Luensman produced one takedown, just missing out on a second takedown in round three and a second national title.
Luensman went 3-0 in order to qualify for the championship round Saturday evening. He defeated Kaden Hart (Nebraska-Kearney) in a 10-3 decision, seven-seeded Anthony Herrera (St. Cloud State) in a 7-3 decision and three-seeded Cory Peterson (McKendree) in sudden victory (1-4-1).
