BACKGROUND OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS…Last year, Indianapolis was crowned GLVC Champion for the first time since the league began sport sponsorship in 2017. The first two GLVC Wrestling seasons (2017 and 2018) determined the GLVC Champion based on regular season winning percentage, as did the 2021 and 2023 campaign, while the 2022 champion was based on results of an eight-team dual tournament.
The inaugural crown was vacated in 2017 before McKendree won three-straight titles from 2018-20. Former league member Lindenwood then won the 2021 championship with a 5-0 regular season record before the Bearcats captured their fourth championship in 2022.
PROBABLE LINEUPS… As a team, Upper Iowa has posted 295 wins in 531 matches for a win percentage of 55% with 194 bonus-point wins including 98 falls, 51 tech falls and 45 major decisions. The following individuals are prepped and ready to suit up this weekend in the final site duals.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS… Upper Iowa, McKendree and Indianapolis are all tied for first place in the conference with a 3-1 mark. Maryville is in fourth with a 2-1 record, while Drury is in fifth at 2-2. Davenport and Quincy round out the standings in sixth and seventh as neither team has won a conference dual yet this season.
NATIONAL LEADERBOARD… Sophomore
Ethen Doty (149) was recognized on the national scene as he currently ranks seventh on the Division II Falls Leaderboard. He has recorded eight falls in 12:19. He trails Trey Sizemore (174) from Indianapolis, who has executed nine falls in 33:24. A third GLVC member has made the top, as Lucas Wendling (197) from McKendree was tabbed ninth with eight falls in 21:02.
ON THE HORIZON… The Peacocks will head north to Minot, N.D. for the NCAA Super Region V Championships on Saturday, March 2.
