No. 15 Upper Iowa took on a tough conference opponent Sunday afternoon as they faced McKendree in a GLVC dual. The Bearcats were successful in seven of the ten bouts behind three decisions, two major decisions, one tech fall and one sudden victory, fueling their 25-14 victory.

McKendree had the advantage in takedowns (15-11) and escapes (15-12). UIU shifted to 7-5 on the season and 3-1 in the conference while the Bearcats improved to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC.Â

The Peacocks found themselves trailing 15-0 until
Eric Faught (157) defeated Josh Laubach by tech fall to give the visitors five points on the scoreboard. He executed four takedowns during the match.Â

UIU dropped the next two matches until
Colter Bye trumped his opponent at 184 by decision (12-7). Bye gained his edge in the third period as he put forth an escape, takedown and earned the additional ride time point en route to the second UIU victory that afternoon, bringing the score to 21-8.

Jordan Baumler (285) was the last Upper Iowa victory of the day as he pinned Tyler Haynes in 6:47 to give the Peacocks their final total of 14 points.Â

The Peacocks surrendered a grouping of bouts to McKendree's ranked wrestlers.
Treyton Ackman fell to No. 4 Christian Mejia by tech fall, while
James Davis (133) came up just shy of No. 10 Ryan Ripplinger in a 2-1 result.Â

Tate Murty faced No. 3 Ronan Schuelke and was tied 1-1 going into the third period, but gave up a takedown before time expired and came out on the wrong end of a decision.Â

Chase Luensman (165) tested No. 4 Cory Peterson in a close matchup. The two were tied up at three apiece going into the final stint, but Luensman allowed Peterson to escape, falling in the 4-3 decision.Â

Lawson Losee gave No. 11 Matt Ortiz at 174 his best effort and just came up just short as he dropped in a sudden victory as he allowed Ortiz a takedown in overtime.Â

UIU men's wrestling will compete in the Final Site Duals next weekend in St. Louis, Mo. They will take on Quincy at 10 a.m. and Indianapolis at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18.
