MAKING A MARK AT LUTHER… The Peacocks accumulated 36 points as a team at the Luther Open, highlighted by junior
Tiffany White placing second overall in the 207-weight class. White won by fall in the first two rounds, beating Camryn Klug in the first match and teammate
Toyia Griffin in the quarterfinals. She defeated Savannah Sistad in the semifinals by an 11-5 decision to reach the championship match while recording a team-high 19 points. Junior
Toyia Griffin won by fall in the opening round and she bounced back from her match against White by defeating Teagan McKinnie by a 10-0 tech fall in the second round of consolations. She concluded the open by placing seventh in the 207-weight class with 11 points as she defeated Cynthia Ellis by fall. Freshman
Makayla Matson garnered UIU's final six points as she defeated Lexi Timmerman in the second round of consolations by fall, before finishing in eighth place in the 110-weight class.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION… The Buena Vista Beavers also opened their season at the Luther Open, where Aroura Preston placed eighth overall in the 103-weight class. Following the open event, they defeated Dakota Wesleyan 35-10 and Loras College 29-15. Kayeleigh Bowden and Magalie Mogiga each won by fall against Dakota Wesleyan and Evelyn Kramer won by fall against Loras College while Preston won by tech fall with a score of 10-0.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 3 in Pella, Iowa as they take on the Central College Duals at a time that is yet to be determined.
