LAST WEEK's WIN IN REVIEW
Last weekend, Upper Iowa football was successful in its Homecoming conquest as they trumped William Jewell 38-31 in a thrilling overtime victory. UIU had a 24-6 advantage going into the half, but allowed WJC to rally off three consecutive touchdowns and notch a field goal to take a 31-34 lead with just over a minute left in regulation. A 16-yard toss from quarterback
Darryl Overstreet Jr. to
Mante Morrow put the Peacocks behind by one (31-30), and the extra point from
Nathan Behne forced the overtime session.
The Peacocks were on offense first in the extra segment and receptions from
Cam Williams and
Eddie Burgess put the home team two yards from the end zone. A short jaunt left from Overstreet into Cardinal territory for a touchdown and extra point put the Peacocks ahead 38-31. The UIU defense stepped up when the Cardinals had possession and stopped them from scoring to seal the Homecoming victory.
GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Quarterback Darryl Overstreet was named GLVC Football's Offensive Player of the Week after his efforts in UIU's 38-31 triumph over William Jewell last weekend. He is the third selection from Peacock football this season, following
Ben Kamara (9/9/24) and
Jayden Mitchell (9/30/24).
The junior completed a career-high 80% of his passes (24-30) in a single game against the Cardinals. He threw two touchdowns and totaled 199 passing yards.
Overstreet also contributed to the team's ground game, rushing for an individual season-high of 57 yards (8.1 yards per rush) and one touchdown. The Grayslake, Ill. native also recorded a game-high longest rush of 36 yards.
WHERE WE STAND
The Peacocks rank second in the conference with a 3-1 league record, following Indianapolis who is leading the race at a flawless 4-0 GLVC mark. William Jewell and Missouri S&T are tied for sixth at 1-2, while Southwest Baptist is eighth (1-3) and Lincoln in ninth (0-4).
SCOUTING THE BLUE TIGERS
