No. 4 Vikings Outlast No. 8 Peacocks in Sioux Falls

The No. 8 Peacocks fell in their first dual of the weekend against Augustana in a 23-12 decision. Upper Iowa claimed four bouts in the dual, two by decision and two by sudden victory. Their back-to-back wins at 165 and 174 brought them within striking distance as they only trailed the Vikings 12-9, but UIU was only successful in one more match this evening. 
 
After the final points were awarded, the home team improved to 8-4 on the season, while the Peacocks fell to 3-4 overall. 
 
Augustana held advantages in takedowns (18-10) , while Upper Iowa edged out the Vikings in escapes (17-14) and scored a 1-0 advantage in reversals.
 
The match started off at 125, where Treyton Ackman was pinned and Augustana got off to a 6-0 start.
 
No. 18 at 133, James Davis, executed three takedowns in his bout and defeated No. 20 Jack Huffman by decision. His win pulled the team back within three. 
 
The Vikings would go on to claim the next two, as Tate Murty (No. 4 at 141) fell to No. 12 Hunter Barnett by decision and No. 12 at 149 Ethen Doty dropped to No. 16 Cael Larson by decision. Doty was behind 6-5 going into the last period, but was unable to come back and come out on top. 
 
No. 10 at 157 Eric Faught defeated Payton Handevidt by decision.  Faught grabbed an early 6-1 lead, but allowed Handevidt to come back within reach to trail by one (6-5). Faught found an extra push and extended his lead to 11-6 for a win by decision.
 
Upper Iowa won the following head-to-head as No. 2 at 165 Chase Luensman took down No. 14 Tyler Wagener in sudden victory. Luensman was down 5-4, but tied it up and pushed the bout into extra time.
 
The Peacocks dropped the next three matches. 
 
Lawson Losee was defeated by Coy Gunderson by decision (5-2), while Colter Bye (No. 9 at 184) put up a tough fight, but was barely edged out by No. 4 Cade Mueller in the tiebreaker. 
 
Cameron Lopez was trumped by tech fall against No. 6 Max Ramberg at 197. 
 
No. 20 at 185 Jordan Baumler ended the evening on a high note as he came out on top versus Max Balow in sudden victory. 
 
The Peacocks are back on the mat in Sioux Falls tomorrow as they challenge MSU Moorhead at 4 p.m. Exact time will be dependent on duals beforehand.
