THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL … The Peacocks have qualified for their first-ever GLVC Championship Tournament in their first year as a league member, where they are set to face University of Missouri-St. Louis in game one. The match is set to begin at 11:30 AM CST in Williamsville, Ill. at the Williamsville High School Fieldhouse. The Upper Iowa volleyball program ended their regular season on a positive note last weekend as their victory over Maryville propelled them to an 11-16 overall record and a 6-7 conference mark, solidifying eighth place in the GLVC.

RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND… The Peacocks went 1-1 last weekend as they fell to Missouri S&T 3-1, but defeated Maryville the next day 3-1. The Peacocks lost a hard-fought opening set against the Miners, falling 26-24. Despite the Peacocks pulling off a dominant 25-14 victory in the second set to tie things up at one set each, they could not keep their momentum going as they dropped the next two sets 25-18 and 25-20.
Against the Saints, Upper Iowa came out strong as they won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21, but allowed Maryville to sneak out a win in the third set in a 27-25 decision. The Peacocks regrouped and sailed through the fourth set in a 25-18 decision.
STATISTIC NOTABLES…
- The Peacocks finished the regular season fourth in service aces with 1.80 per set.
- Zoe Semelroth is tied for second in total number of service aces with 46.
- Nicole Pozorski is sixth in assists per set with 9.67.
- Kaci Beesecker is eighth in digs per set with an average of 4.20.
SCOUTING THE TRITONS… The University of Missouri-St. Louis was flawless throughout the season as they went 28-0 overall and 13-0 in conference play. For their efforts, they were ranked second in the latest AVCA National Poll. Lewis University was the only GLVC team to force the Tritons to play five sets, but the Flyers fell 15-8 in the final frame. UMSL leads the GLVC in hitting percentage (.291), assists (14.01 per set), kills (15.09 per set) and service aces (2.11 per set). Lexie Rang paces the team in kills with 4.28 per set, while Mya Elliot leads in hitting percentage with .387. Caitlin Bishop leads the conference in assists with 12.38 per set.
THE LAST MEETING… UMSL came to Fayette back in October and defeated Upper Iowa in three sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-20). During that match, Missouri-St. Louis executed well at the net as they put down 46 kills that evening, equaling 15.3 per set, hitting just above their team average of 14.9 at that time. The Triton defense totaled 42 kills led by Kylie Adams with 13 and Skylar Weaver with ten. The Peacocks gathered 31 digs with
Kaci Beesecker leading the way with 11 and
Lydia Imbrogno behind her with eight.
The Tritons' setter, Caitlin Bishop, accumulated 37 assists and
Nicole Pozorski dished out 26. Pace was a big factor at the net as she put up six blocks in addition to her tie for the team-high of six kills this evening.
Madelyn Rettler contributed six kills while
Zoe Semelroth added five.
TOURNAMENT INFO… The eight-team tournament is seeded 1-8 based on Conference winning percentage with ties broken pursuant to GLVC Handbook Section 1 and 14. Missouri S&T and Maryville University earned seeds 5-6, while University of Indianapolis and Upper Iowa University filled spots No. 6 and 7, respectively.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners from Friday, Nov. 17 will advance to the semifinals set for 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM Saturday, Nov. 18. The winners of the semifinal matches will face each other on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 12 PM for a shot at being crowned 2023 GLVC Volleyball Champions.
