The No. 10 Peacocks lost their first Northern Sun Conference dual of the season in Bismarck, N.D. on Saturday when the No. 14 Marauders of the University of Mary picked up an 18-12 win behind six wins. Upper Iowa was leading heading into the final three bouts of the dual, but UMary scored three-straight decisions at 174, 184 and 197 to win.

After the final points were awarded, the home team improved to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while UIU fell to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in NSIC action.

UMary held advantages in takedowns (12-8) and escapes (16-7), while Upper Iowa scored a 3-0 advantage in reversals.

Zach Ryg opened the dual with a 1-0 win at heavyweight, but the Marauders tied the score at 3-3 with a 5-2 win at 125 pounds. UMary made it two straight when No. 3 Reece Barnhardt scored a 4-0 win at 133 pounds thanks to one first-period takedown.

Tate Murty, ranked No. 4 at 141 pounds, knotted the score at 6-6 with a 5-4 decision after rallying in the final frame with a reversal and a ride time point.

After the Marauders posted a 4-1 win at 149 pounds,
Eric Faught brought UIU right back into a tie with the home team thanks to a pair of takedowns in his 5-2 win.

Chase Luensman gave Upper Iowa the lead back 13-9 when he scored the only bonus-point win of the dual. The Peacock 165-pounder notched five more takedowns in his 13-5 major decision.

No. 2 Max Bruss won the 174-pound match and UIU was assessed a team point for unsportsmanlike behavior which locked the score at 12-12 with two bouts to go.

Cameron Lopez and Wyatt Lidberg got after each other in the 184-pound match. After falling behind 4-1 after the first period, Lopez grabbed two takedowns to tie the score at 6-6. One final escape from Lidberg was the winning point as UMary got ahead by three.

Matt Kaylor picked up a 5-2 decision over No. 8
Dalton Hahn behind a pair of takedowns. Hahn scored his points after Kaylor was hit with several stall warnings in the match.

Upper Iowa will have to recover quickly as they are set to host No. 5 St. Cloud State University and the No. 7 University of Wisconsin Parkside on Feb. 2 and 5. The two top 25 duals will mark the beginning and end of Stormin' Dorman Week at Upper Iowa.
