The Peacock men and women's track and field teams competed at the Cornell Invitational hosted by Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa on Saturday. The Peacock women claimed sixth place with 47.50 points, while the men earned seventh place with 33 points.
 
Upper Iowa sent 16 women into action to battle in 15 different events throughout the day. On the men's side, the Peacocks lined up 14 individuals to compete in 11 events across the day.
 
The UIU women's 4x100m relay team won the event in a time of 49.89. Jordan Sekafetz, Maddie Stevens, Nailea Espinoza and Zakaria Fuller combined for the event title and grabbed 10 points for the team. Stevens won the 100m dash in a time of 12.37 seconds and Espinoza came in third place in a time of 12.53 seconds; the pair combined to push 16 more points into UIU's pile after the race.
 
Fuller added a third-place finish in the 200m dash to send six points to the team total thanks to a time of 26.49 seconds. Sekafetz placed third in the 100m hurdles to add six more team points thanks to a time of 16.32 and Kysta Ramirez earned a point with an eighth-place time of 18.02 seconds in the event. Jade Martin took fifth place and scored four points in the 400m dash thanks to a time of 1:04.37.
 
Upper Iowa got three points in the 5K race claiming seventh and eighth place behind the runs of Madison Brownrigg (21:11.46) and Macey White (21:34.82). Brianna Crouch scored a point for the Peacocks with an eighth-place finish in the 1500m race closing out with a time of 5:24.27. Brittiney Harris added 0.5 to the team point total with a high jump mark of 1.35 meters tying for eighth place in the discipline.
 
Kai Bateman and Jaylen Hobson had a great day for the men combining for 26 points in the triple jump and the long jump. Bateman won the triple jump (10 pts) with a mark of 13.46 meters and placed third (6 pts) in the long jump with a leap of 6.17 meters. Hobson finished third in the triple jump (6 pts) after hitting 12.83 meters and fifth in the long jump (4 pts) with a mark of 6.13 meters.
 
David Hayes placed eighth in the 200m dash getting his race done in a time of 23.16 seconds to grab one point. Devon Lawrence also placed eighth with a throw of 40.04 meters in the hammer throw to score a team point. The men's 4x100m relay team also placed with a time of 43.94 seconds. Hayes, Bateman, Austin Bittenbender and Cameron Green placed sixth and posted five points toward the team total. After two backup relay teams from the University of Dubuque were removed from the scoring.
  
Next Saturday, Upper Iowa will travel with both teams just 35 miles north to Decorah, Iowa. The Peacocks will get on the track at Luther College for the Norse Invite on Saturday, Apr. 9.
