NGWSD, or National Girls and Women in Sports Day, is a national event celebrating its 40th Anniversary by recognizing the extraordinary progress sparked by Title IX and the ongoing effort to ensure girls' and women's sports access. This year's NGWSD is on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Upper Iowa is excited to offer a Multi-Sports Girls Clinic for local girls in Kindergarten-8th grade as part of this celebration. Participants will be involved in various sports stations to help expand life-long opportunities and expose them to several sports, including volleyball, basketball, soccer, cheer and dance, softball, track and field, wrestling, and golf.
Research indicates that girls who play sports have better health, higher self-esteem, stronger leadership skills, greater academic achievement, and economic opportunity.
All clinic participants will receive:
-- Free t-shirt (sizes based on availability)
-- Free admittance into the UIU vs. Maryville basketball games
In addition to the clinic stations, girls can take advantage of meet-and-greet opportunities with our Peacock Basketball players. The men's basketball players will be available in the Dorman Lobby during the 2nd quarter of the women's game, and the women's basketball players will be available with 10 min to go in the 1st half of the men's game.
