No. 15 Upper Iowa suffered a 23-15 loss at home to No. 21 Northern State University on Friday night. The dual was UIU's first at home since mid-December. The Wolves claimed six of the ten bouts posting bonus points in three of their wins to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC. The Peacocks fall to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Four Peacocks scored wins including a first-period fall by 133-pounder
Kaden Anderlik (No. 5). Anderlik got in on a single-leg shot early, but had to work for quite a while to earn his takedown. Once he secured the two points, Anderlik was able to maneuver into position for the fall (2:04). The big win pushed UIU back in front 6-4 in the dual after the Wolves claimed a major at 125.
Northern State earned a decision at 141 pounds and a major at 149 pounds to rally and take an 11-6 lead.
Chase Luensman (No. 7) controlled his match at 157 pounds scoring a takedown in the first period on his way to a 5-1 decision.
Cameron Lopez made his Dorman Memorial Gymnasium debut and a burst of excitement for the home crowd. Lopez took a 6-2 lead after the first period thanks to a pair of takedowns and a two-point nearfall. Lopez added a takedown in each of the next two periods to score a 12-6 win and move UIU ahead 12-11 on the team scoreboard.
The teams exchanged decisions at 174 and 184 with NSU claiming the first win and
Myron Crawford supplying the offensive win at 184 for UIU. Crawford posted four takedowns and allowed just three escapes in his 9-3 win. After the victory at 184, the Peacocks clawed back in front 15-14 with two bouts to go.
After a scoreless first period, Cole Huss scored the big win for the Wolves with a reversal and fall in the second period (4:07) to put the visitors ahead 20-15.
Jordan Baumler and Ali'l Loyola got together in the heavyweight match and both wrestlers got after their scoring. Each had a takedown and escape in the first period, and after two escapes for Baumler and one takedown for Loyola in the second, the score was tied 5-5 heading to the final frame. Baumler put the team first in the final period and tried to hit a pair of home run moves that ended up exposing him to counters for takedowns. In the end, Baumler lost 10-6.
The teams wrestled two extra matches at 157 and 174 pounds.
Gunner Rodgers came up shy in a 3-2 decision before
