The Peacock women and men's track and field teams sent some of their athletes to the University of Dubuque on Friday night to compete in the Solomon W. Butler Classic. The competition served as a final tune up for Upper Iowa before next weekend's NSIC Championships in Mankato, Minn.
The women's team finished in fifth place out of nine competing teams with 28 points, while the men's team placed seventh out of nine with 23 points.

On the women's side, the Peacocks spread 12 athletes out over 9 events to accumulate 28 points. Upper Iowa's athletes scored points in five events including the 60m dash, the 60m hurdles, the 200m dash, the 400m race and the 3,000m race.
Nailea Espinoza placed third in the 60m dash in a time of 7.98 seconds and seventh in the 200m dash in a time of 26.75 seconds, while
Zakaria Fuller (400m) and
Brianna Crouch (3,000m) placed fourth in their events. Fuller finished in a time of 1:02.11 and Crouch crossed the line in a time of 11:35.30.
The Peacocks had two place winners in a pair of events.
Macey White placed eighth in the 3,000m race in a time of 11:49.05 to join Crouch. In the 60m hurdles,
Margaret Nielsen and
Jordan Sekafetz placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in times of 9.91 and 9.93 seconds.Â

The men's team put 15 athletes into action on Friday night spread out between 10 events. The Peacocks scored points in the events including the 200m dash, the triple jump and shot put.Â
Kai Bateman won the triple jump event with a mark of 13.46 meters and claimed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.19 meters.
Teddy Ayden returned from injury to place second in the 200m dash in a time of 22.62 seconds.
Jaylen Hobson scored a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.9 meters, and
Macklin Conrad was eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.65 meters.Â

Upper Iowa will now take the week for final preparations before heading to Mankato, Minn. for the Northern Sun Conference Championships that will take place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26.
