The Upper Iowa women’s bowling team wrapped up the 2022 portion of their schedule this weekend while competing at the Track Kat Klash.

The Upper Iowa women's bowling team wrapped up the 2022 portion of their schedule this weekend while competing at the Track Kat Klash. The event took place at Emerald Bowl in Houston, Texas.

Twenty teams participated in the event hosted by Sam Houston State University, including 14 teams from the NCTA top-25 preseason poll. The tournament's format featured five team Baker matches on Friday, five traditional team matches on Saturday, and wrapped up with best of seven team Baker matches on Sunday.

The Peacocks finished in 19th place with an overall record of 2-11. They knocked over 4,239 pins in the team Baker matches, 4,192 in the traditional matches, and 2,182 during bracket play for a tournament total of 10,613 pins.

On Friday, UIU were unable to come away with a victory after four of their five matches featured top-25 opponents, including three inside the top-10. On Saturday, the Peacocks dropped their first four contests before picking up a narrow victory over Alabama State University by just nine pins.

On Sunday, UIU dropped its first two bracket matches vs. Prairie View A&M University and McKendree University but were able to sweep their final match vs. Alabama A&M 4-0.

Individually, Aubrey Kiddle paced the team with a total of 881 pins in five games for an average of 176.2 per game. She was followed by Samantha Percha, who recorded a total of 706 pins in four games and an average of 176.5 per game, and Michaela Morgan, who finished with a score of 682 pins in four games and an average of 170.5 per game. In her final event for the team, senior Alex Dombrowski finished the tournament with a score of 497 pins in three games with a high game of 193.

"The Kat Klash is a test of our strengths and weaknesses as a team," said Head Coach Nichole DePaul. "Sadly, our weaknesses took over for much of the weekend with missed spares and lack of controlling the pocket. Our ladies have work to do on and off the lanes in preparation for the second half of our season."

Up next, the Peacocks will enjoy a lengthy holiday break before returning to play in 2023 when they host the Brunswick/CVSC Peacock Classic in Waterloo, Iowa beginning on January 20.
