Women's Bowling Conclude Season at GLVC Championship

The Upper Iowa women’s bowling team wrapped up their 2022-23 season on Friday by placing seventh at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament.

The Upper Iowa women's bowling team wrapped up their 2022-23 season on Friday by placing seventh at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament. The event was held at Strike N' Spare in Lockport, Illinois and featured all seven members of the conference.

Prior to start of the tournament, the GLVC released its picks for all-conference and other postseason awards. UIU's Dana Murata was one of seven players recognized as a GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Individual Award Honoree. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.

The tournament's format was double elimination with each match consisting of three legs, including a traditional single-game total, a five-game Baker Format total, and a best-of-seven Baker format total if needed. As the sixth seed, UIU were defeated 2-1 by the third seed Newman University before losing 2-1 to the seventh seed in Quincy University. McKendree University were named GLVC champions for the third consecutive season after they defeated Newman 2-0.

In Match 1, Newman took the first leg by knocking over 900 pins vs. the 837 pins of UIU. Murata led the Peacocks with a high game of 204 followed by Emma Hawley with a score of 186. In the second leg, UIU were able to regroup and outscore the Jets 945-883 to force a third and decisive leg. Newman, the #13 team in the country, successfully halted the Peacock's momentum by taking the best-of-seven series in four games.

In Match 2, UIU got off to a good start by winning the first leg over Quincy by a narrow score of 843-830. Individually, Aubrey Kiddle finished with the top score at 216. In the second leg, the Hawks recorded their best scores down the stretch in order to win 890-812. The final leg of the match went six games with the teams trading a pair of wins each to start. In the end, Quincy pulled away by winning the final two Baker games in order to move on to the next round.

This season, UIU set multiple program marks, including a second-place finish at the Hawk Classic and a third-place finish at the second ever Peacock Classic. The Peacocks conclude the season with a 39-48 overall record.
