The Upper Iowa women’s bowling team continued their solid start to the season this weekend at the Valpo Bowling Classic.

The Upper Iowa women's bowling team continued their solid start to the season this weekend at the Valpo Bowling Classic. The event took place at Stardust Bowl in Dyer, Indiana.

Seventeen teams participated in the event hosted by Valparaiso University. The tournament's format featured five team Baker matches on Friday, five traditional team matches on Saturday, and wrapped up with best of seven team Baker matches on Sunday.

On the back of two bracket wins on the final day, the Peacocks finished in eighth place with a record of 8-5 for the weekend. They knocked over 4,279 pins in the team Baker matches, 4,334 in the traditional matches, and 3,152 during bracket play for a tournament total of 11,765 pins.

On Friday, after losing their initial match to GLVC foe in Newman University, the Peacocks went on to win their next four matches vs. Belmont Abbey College, Tusculum University, Carroll University, and Elmhurst University. UIU won each match by at least a margin of 57 pins.

On Saturday, UIU picked up wins vs. Aurora University and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater that helped them maintain a winning record of 6-4. That record earned them the 10th seed heading into Sunday's bracket.

In round one, UIU drew a rematch with Alabama A&M University, who had won the first meeting the day before. The contest took all seven Baker games, but the Peacocks managed to outlast the Bulldogs 4-3. In round 2, UIU easily dispatched Aurora in five games to set up a matchup with Kentucky Wesleyan College for seventh place. The Panthers narrowly edged out the Peacocks in the end 4-3.

Individually, Aubrey Kiddle finished in 22nd place among all competitors with a total of 944 pins across five games, including a high game of 225, and an average of 188.8 pins per game. Amber Wagner finished in 30th place with a score of 921 in five games and an average of 184.2 pins per game. Michaela Morgan rounded out the Peacocks in the top-40 with a score of 870 in five games and an average of 174 pins per game.

"Another successful weekend for ladies finishing with an 8-5 overall record and landing in eighth," said Head Coach Nichole DePaul. "We pushed and pushed to make it work on the lanes. We still have room to grow heading into Houston this weekend."

Up next, the Peacocks will compete for the final time this calendar year at the Track Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State University, beginning on November 4.
