The Peacock women and men's indoor track and field teams competed at the Hilltop Invitational on Saturday hosted by Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Upper Iowa's women placed sixth in the seven-team field scoring 36 points across eight events with 13 individuals. The UIU men finished third in the seven-team scoring 62 points amid eight events with 16 individuals.

The Peacock women scored half of their points in the 60-meter dash when
Nailea Espinoza (7.97 sec) and
Maddie Stevens (8.02 sec) went 1-2 in the finals to score 10 and eight points, respectively.
Zakaria Fuller added 10 more points with the event title in the 400-meter race in a time of 1:02.60.
Ashley Donovan claimed six points on UIU's behalf with a third-place run in the 800-meter race (2:35.54), while
Genevieve Chenoweth grabbed the final two points with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

The UIU men scored a pair of first place finishes behind
Kai Bateman's triple jump mark of 13.12 meters and
Teddy Ayden's 200-meter run in 22.82 seconds. Ayden added eight more points to the team tally with a second place run in the 60-meter race in 7.04 seconds.
Nathan Goranson also supplied eight points with a time of 2:02.70 in the 800-meter race.
David Hayes placed third in the 200 meters in a time of 23.40 seconds and fourth in the 60 meters in a time of 7.20 seconds, while the Peacocks claimed the third, fourth and fifth spots in the 400-meter race behind
Kaden Ludwig,
Cameron Green and
Deion Jones.
Macklin Conrad carried the final four points for the team with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.42 meters.

The women and men worked together in a new 4x200m relay race; which featured a mix of women and men. Upper Iowa set an initial program mark of 1:39.26 thanks to the efforts of
Nailea Espinoza,
Maddie Stevens,
David Hayes and
Kaden Ludwig (pictured above).

Upper Iowa will continue to build over the next four weekends as they prepare for the NSIC Championships on Feb. 25-26. The Peacocks will head to Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 29 to compete in the Solomon W. Butler Classic hosted by the University of Dubuque at the A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track.
