Upper Iowa dropped a doubleheader to Augustana University on Friday afternoon in UIU's second-to-last gameday of the season. The Peacocks fell 8-2 in game one before coming up short 8-3 in the rematch. Following the day, Upper Iowa becomes 13-25 overall, 11-20 in conference play while Augustana improves to 30-9 on the season, 26-9 in the NSIC.

GAME ONE: Augustana 8, Upper Iowa 2

Augustana put two on the board in the opening frame thanks to a trio of base knocks including a double. The Vikings manufactured another score in the second thanks to a single, a walk, and some heads up base running. A single, a walk, and a passed ball made it a 4-0 ballgame in favor of Augie after three and a half innings.

The Peacocks got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth. Jake Hilmer started the inning with a well-placed double down the left-field line. Hilmer then came home on an Alex Greene single over the head of the Vikings' third baseman cutting the Upper Iowa deficit to 4-1.

Augustana accumulated four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings via six hits including a double. The Peacocks scored a second run in the bottom of the sixth. Hilmer again got things going, this time via a bunt single. Grushkin followed with a single moving Hilmer to third before the Walker, Iowa native came around to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Greene cutting the Peacock deficit down to 8-2. UIU was unable to produce any other runs thus ended the game at 8-2 in favor of the visiting Vikings.

Blake Thiesse got the start and was awarded the loss moving to 2-4 on the season after allowing eight runs, seven earned on 11 hits and a pair of walks while striking out one in 5.1 innings of work. Keaton Parker saw 1.1 innings of action in relief where he allowed three hits and fanned a pair. Chris Harsh closed things out for the Peacocks retiring one and allowing one hit.

GAME TWO: Augustana 8, Upper Iowa 3

Colin Lacey got the start and shut down the side 1-2-3 in the opening frame. Augustana scored three runs in the Vikings next set of at-bats thanks to a trio of walks, a double, an error, and a sacrifice fly. All three runs were awarded to Lacey, two of which were earned, who was eventually awarded the loss moving to 2-1 on the year. Sam Marhefke got the Peacocks out of the jam fanning one in the second before exiting due to injury in the third. Logan DeWulf then shut down the first three Vikings lineup he faced in relief of the injured junior.

Augie tacked on three runs between the third and fourth innings. The first run came across in the third following a pair of walks, a single, and a wild pitch. In the fourth, another pair of runs scored thanks to a two-run home run beyond the left-field fence off the bat of Carter Howell.

Grant Ver Voort had a five-pitch top of the fifth where he shut the Vikings down 1-2-3 in relief of DeWulf. Ver Voort's day continued into the seventh inning. The second-year freshman ended up going 3.2 innings where he allowed two earned runs on four walks and a double while setting down two on strikes. Brennan Sefrit relieved the righty setting down the lone batter he faced on strikes.

Upper Iowa scored three runs of their own in the sixth and seventh. The first came across in the sixth as Kyle Routhieaux got aboard via single, advanced to second on a passed ball, then came around to score thanks to a single off the bat of Grushkin. Two more came in UIU's following at-bats. AJ Friedrich and Nolan Friedrichs both reached the basepaths via single before Hilmer belted another single to the opposite field in a great display of situational hitting that cleared the bases. The scoring would end there, however, as the game would end 8-3 in favor of Augustana.

SJ Mousseau, Jason Katz, and Casey Zarr spanned the final two innings holding the Vikings scoreless.
