The UIU track and field teams completed their run at the 2021 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Duluth, Minn. The Peacock men's team placed 11
th thanks to 22 points scored in four events, while the women's team finished 14
th behind 6 points in two events. Minnesota State University, Mankato won the men's title with 214.5 points, while the University of Mary claimed the women's title with 174 points.
Â
Paul Marchand led the way for the Peacock men's team scoring 10 points thanks to a third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 7.07 meters and a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.81 seconds. Marchand unfortunately lost an opportunity to score in the 200-meter race after a false start in the preliminary heat.
Â
Teddy Ayden placed third in the 200-meter race in a time of 21.49 seconds. The third-place finish reversed what had been an unlucky day for the Peacock freshman. At the completion of the 4x100-meter relay the Peacocks had the third fastest time, but an exchange zone violation on the final handoff cost UIU six team points. Ayden also false started in the 100-meter final, which he reached as the second-seed after a time of 10.95 seconds in the preliminary heat. He made the most of his final race at the championships and was only .01 of a second out of the runner-up position in the 200-meters.
Â
Jaylen Hobson scored six points for Upper Iowa with a third-place finish in the triple jump on Saturday with a mark of 14.53 meters after recording a eleventh-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.68 meters.
Â
Marchand, Ayden and Hobson all earned All-NSIC honors with their third-place finishes.
Â
Cassiddy Wilson paced the women's team with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.28 to score three points. Wilson then opened the 4x400-meter relay team for the Peacocks that placed sixth behind the efforts of Wilson,
Christonna Shafranski,
Ellie Loesch and
Jenna Ross. The quartet finished in a time of 3:55.76 for three points.
Â
Two Peacocks claimed top-ten individual finishes including
Deion Jones placing ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.61 seconds and
Brady Krupa placing tenth in the decathlon with 5197 points. The men's 4x400-meter relay team placed ninth in a time of 3:21.67 thanks to the sprints of
Cameron Green, Jones, Marchand and
Kaden Ludwig, while the women's 4x100-meter relay team nearly scored points placing ninth in a time of 48.79 on the feet of Loesch, Shafranski, Ross and
