The Peacock women's track and field team claimed second place at the DWU Invitational hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D. on Saturday. Upper Iowa scored 87 points across 13 events to grab the runner-up position. Northwestern College won the team title with 153 points, while Jamestown University came in third with 69 points and Dakota Wesleyan and Briar Cliff University placed fourth and fifth with 66 and 32 points, respectively.
Madison Brownrigg broke a UIU record in the 3000-meter race and placed second in a time of 11:13.42 for 8 team points. Her teammate Serianna Demhlow placed fourth in the event to claim 4 points with a time of 11:30.54. Brownrigg and Demhlow paired with
Ashley Donovan and
Delaney Miller to score 10 points with a first-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay.
Cassiddy Wilson won the 600-meter race with a time of 1:38.31, while
Christonna Shafranski placed fourth after crossing the line in 1:47.06. Wilson, Fuller,
Jenna Ross and
Ellie Loesch teamed up to place second in the 4x400-meter relay thanks to a time of 4:14.44.
Loesch placed second in the 200-meter after finishing in 27.75 seconds to score 8 points and third in the 60-meter dash to grab 6 team points with a time of 8.11.
Kysta Ramirez scored 4 points with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdle with a time of 10.01.
Jocelyn Grecco scored 14 points in a pair of field events placing second in the high jump with a leap of 1.45 meters and third place in the triple jump with a mark of 9.10 meters. UIU also had a pair of athletes tie for third place in the high jump; both
Brittiney Harris and
Jade Martin grabbed 4 points with a jump of 1.30 meters.
Next Saturday, the Peacocks are scheduled to face Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa for a dual.
