Upper Iowa's men's indoor track and field team returned to the track on Friday and placed second at the DWU Invitational hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D. The Peacocks traveled north to compete this weekend after the Mule Relays hosted by the University of Central Missouri were canceled in Warrensburg, Mo.

UIU scored 103 points to place second out of five teams at the invite. Northwestern College claimed the team title with 174 points, while the host, Dakota Wesleyan, came in third place with 77 points. Jamestown College placed fourth with 50 points and Briar Cliff University rounded out the fivesome with 47 points.

Teddy Ayden led the way for the Peacocks with a pair of first-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter race earning 20 points for UIU. Ayden set UIU program records in both races crossing the finish line in 7.00 seconds in the 60 and 22.72 seconds in the 200.

Paul Marchand also had a great day for the Peacocks. Marchand won the long jump with a leap of 6.67 meters and also placed second in the 60-meter dash just .03 seconds behind Ayden (7.03). The 60-meter dash was a big race for UIU; the Peacocks scored the top three times as
Joe Edozie came in third in a time of 7.15.

Kaden Ludwig had a hand in 12 points thanks to a fifth-place run in the 200 meters (23.19 seconds), a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters (52.46) and was part of the third-place, 4x400 meter relay team that took third in a time of 3:32.97. Ludwig was joined on the relay by
Cameron Green,
Iain Gronewold and
Deion Jones. Jones also placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.41 to score 8 points for the team.

The long jump was another big event for the Peacocks. UIU marked four of the top five jumps on the day. After Marchand's top leap of 6.67,
Jaylen Hobson placed second (6.65m), while
Brady Krupa (6.26m) and
Nicholas Trimuel (6.11m) rounded out the top five. Trimuel also landed the fourth-best triple jump distance (11.91m) to score four more points for UIU.
Caden Wendt scored 10 points in throws placing third in the shot put with a throw of 13.21 meters and fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 12.22 meters. UIU was the only team to enter a team into the 4x800 meter relay.

Nathan Goranson earned 10 team points with a time of 9:18.32.

The Peacocks will head to Mount Vernon, Iowa next Saturday, Feb. 13 for a dual with Cornell College.
