Upper Iowa University had strong showings in a number of their events at the 2020-21 Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. The team set four school records and notched first, second, and third-place finishes in different events as they scored 28 points as a program and finished 9th as a team in Mankato, Minn. Paul Marchand led the squad by securing 18 points as the NSIC Champion in the long jump and NSIC Runner-Up in the 60m dash.Â
UIU scored 28 team points to place ninth out of twelve NSIC schools at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. The hosting Mavericks of Minnesota State claimed first place with a team-score of 201.5, with second-place Augustana University finishing with 200 points as a team. Minnesota State University-Moorhead scored 68 and Northern State University scored 63.5 to round out the top four.Â
Paul Marchand led the way for the Peacocks with 18 points thanks to his first-place finish in the long jump and second-place finish in the 60-meter dash. The NSIC Champion's 7.13m long jump set a new UIU record, and his time of 6.89 seconds in the 60-meter dash was also a Peacock record for the NSIC Runner-Up.Â
Jaylen Hobson secured a third-place finish and 6 points for the Peacocks in the triple jump competition with a mark of 14.06 meters.Â
Brady Krupa scored the first point of the Championships for the Peacocks following an eighth-place finish in the Heptathlon. His performance over the two-day Heptathlon action set a school-record for Upper Iowa.
Teddy Ayden finished seventh in the 60-meter dash to tack on two points for Upper Iowa. Ayden also set a program record for UIU with a 200-meter dash time of 22.63 seconds.
The Peacock 4x400-meter relay team of Cameron Green, Deion Jones, Kaden Ludwig, and Iain Gronewold placed eighth in the final event of the NSIC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships to add another Peacock point. The foursome broke an Upper Iowa record with a time of 3:29.41.
ALL-NSIC HONORS… Paul Marchand earned All-NSIC Honors in the long jump and 60-meter dash as he finished first and second, respectively.
Jaylen Hobson earned All-NSIC Honors for his third-place finish in the triple jump. All-NSIC performers consist of the top three place winners in each event and the members of the top two relay teams from the Conference meet.
