The Upper Iowa women's bowling team continued its 2020-21 season placing eighth, ahead of two other teams, at the Flyer's Classic on Feb. 12 - 14 at the Strike N' Spare II in Lockport, Ill. The tournament was hosted by the nation's 18th ranked, Lewis University.

On day one, the team competed in baker team play format. Upper Iowa went 0-5 on the day. The Peacocks dropped games to the No. 24 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (870-841), No. 1 McKendree University (1067-787), No. 9 Maryville University (1035-805), Dominican University (825-739), and the No. 18 Flyers (924-778).

On day two, the team competed in traditional match play format. Upper Iowa went 2-3 on the day moving to 2-8 overall. The Peacocks picked up back-to-back wins over Dominican (881-648) and Kentucky Wesleyan University (969-908) before falling to Valparaiso University (1036-962), Drury University (910-807), and Quincy University (920-896). Game two's total of 969 pins is a new program high for a traditional team game as the Peacocks inch closer and closer to reaching a four-digit score.

Individually, Alex Dombrowski led the way for UIU as her team-high 971 total pins and 174.2 pins per game were good enough for 15th place. Dombrowski also held the high-game of 231 pins, a career-high and the third-best individual game in program history. Also competing for the Peacocks were Ashlyn Burkeybile (895), Deanna Hopkins (889), Kendra Anifer (876), Isabelle Bergsbaken (701), and Alyssa Bilak (183).

On day three, UIU competed in bracket match play where the Peacocks claimed wins over Dominican (4-0) and Kentucky Wesleyan (4-2) before falling to GLVC foe Quincy (4-1) in the final match of the day.

PEACOCK OF THE TOURNAMENT...
  • Dombrowski's clean sweep of the high game, high series, and high average in Saturday's traditional play earns her POTT. With the high-game of 231, Dombrowski joins Hopkins and Marissa McAulife as one of three Upper Iowa women's bowlers to push past 230 pins in a single game.

UP NEXT... The Peacocks will migrate South to Jonesboro, Ark. where they will compete at the Mid-Winter Invitational on Feb. 19-21.
