On Friday night, Oct. 15, the Upper Iowa University Athletics Department inducted three new members into its Hall of Fame. The UIU Athletics Hall of Fame grew to 207 members with the inductions as family, friends and alumni came together to celebrate. The three newest members all took time at the podium to thank their former coaches, teammates, friends and loved ones, as well as share stories of their time at Upper Iowa and in Fayette.
The trio of new inductees included Max Edmond Jr. (1999), Travis Eggers (2010) and Mitch Norton (2010).
Following the banquet all UIU Athletics Hall of Fame members in attendance gathered with the new inductees for a picture. The Hall of Fame members in attendance and in addition to the three inductees were Steve Harms, Steve Exline, Bill Prochaska, Larry Borst, Larry Wiebke, Bob Klieman, Denny Brumm, Rick Knipper, Wade Whitcher, Lowell Tiedt, Larry Albers, Dave Sanger, a member of the 1964 football team, Matt Cowley, Jamie Van Erem, Vicky Rarick, James Rarick, Rick Heller, Greg Atkins, Joe Smith, Kevin Andrew, Jim Mitchell and Ryan Phillips.
MAX EDMOND JR. (CLASS OF 1999)
Max Edmond Jr. was inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. Edmond was a two-year letter winner with the Peacock baseball team during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. He graduated Upper Iowa with a degree in management information systems.
Edmond terrorized opposing pitchers in 1998 hitting .436 and slugging .660 with 57 runs batted in and 24 stolen bases in 25 chances. During the 1998 season, he hit six triples and is still tied for the program record for triples in a season with Tommy Martinez. Following the season, the outfielder earned NCAA Division III All-American Third Team honors, as well as a place on the All-Central Region and All-Iowa Conference First Teams. As a senior, Edmond hit .301 and slugged .466 with 37 runs batted in and 35 stolen bases in 36 attempts. After his senior campaign, Edmond was named to the All-IIAC Second Team.
After graduating from Upper Iowa, Edmond pursued a professional baseball career, but was not selected for a team. The consummate competitor, he began playing men's slow pitch softball. Edmond as a member of an ASA National Championship team and was selected to the All-World Softball Team.
Along with his wife, Danielle, and three sons, Jake, Tre and Derek, Edmond lives in San Diego, Calif. He works at Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) as a business analyst and product owner. In addition to his career, he also serves as a coach in youth baseball, basketball, football and softball.
TRAVIS EGGERS (CLASS OF 2010)
Travis Eggers was inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. Eggers was a four-year letter winner with the Peacock wrestling team from 2007-10. He graduated with a degree in fitness and wellness.
Eggers dominated on the mats for the Peacock wrestling team posting a 100-34 win-loss record in his four year in an Upper Iowa singlet and closed out his career on a 19-match win streak. The Monona, Iowa product earned three NCAA Division II All-American honors thanks to a fourth-place finish at 157 pounds in 2008, a second-place finish at 165 pounds in 2009 and the 165-pound NCAA Division II Championship in 2010. Eggers qualified for the 2007 NCAA Division II Championships as a freshman in 2007 as well. He placed second at the NCAA Regional for three years before claiming the title as a senior and earning the regional's Outstanding Wrestler honor. Eggers was named the Northern Sun Conference Wrestler of the Year as a sophomore and as a senior. In 2018, Eggers was named to the Jim Koch Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding career at Upper Iowa.
Upper Iowa posted a 43-11 dual meet record over the four years that Eggers wrestled on the varsity mat. UIU won the Northern Sun Conference team title three times and placing second in 2008-09. The Peacocks also claimed their first NCAA Division II trophy with a third-place finish in 2010. In addition to Eggers' NCAA Championship title, Tyler Mumbulo placed second at 125 pounds and Kyle Pedretti and fellow-Hall of Fame inductee Mitch Norton placed third at 133 and 174 pounds, respectively.
Eggers works as a civilian detention officer with the Bremer County Sheriff Department and is pursuing a career in law enforcement. He married his wife Stacia eight years ago. The couple is blessed with two daughters, Kiaya and Peyton.
MITCH NORTON (CLASS OF 2010)
Mitch Norton was inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. Norton was a four-year letter winner with the Peacock wrestling team from 2007-10. He graduated with a degree in agricultural business.
Norton earned two NCAA Division II All-American honors thanks to a third-place finish at 174 pounds as a senior in 2010 and a fifth-place finish as a junior in 2009. The Nashua-Plainfield prep qualified for four NCAA Division II Championships thanks to a pair of NCAA Regional Championship titles in 2009 and 2010 and two third-place finishes at the regionals as a freshman and sophomore. Following his freshman campaign, Norton was named the 2007 NSIC Rookie of the Year and added three All-NSIC First Team nods from 2008-10. Over his four years, Norton posted a record of 84-21.

Norton works for the Bremer County Highway Department as an operator and farms with his brother and UIU alum Matt. He married his wife and UIU alum Jill (Preeshl) eight years ago; they are the proud parents of their daughter Mabel.
