Upper Iowa's men and women's indoor track and field teams got back into competition on Saturday in the Sol Butler Classic hosted by the University of Dubuque. Joining the Peacocks and Spartans of Dubuque was Viterbo University and Cornell College for the quadrangular.

Men's Highlights… On the men's side, Dubuque claimed the team title with 214 points, while Upper Iowa placed second with 119.50 points. Viterbo and Cornell rounded out third and fourth place with 59 and 43.50 points, respectively. The men were fueled by a pair of record-breaking performances, five first-place winners and a pair of runner-up finishers.

Kaden Ludwig broke the program record in the 300-meter race and claimed first place with a time of 36.22 seconds. Ludwig then teamed up with Cam Green,
Iain Gronewold and
Deion Jones in the 4x400 meter relay to set a second new program record and win first place in a time of 3:31.31. The three other first place winners included
Teddy Ayden in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.48 seconds,
Paul Marchand in the long jump with a leap of 6.61 meters and
Jaylen Hobson in the triple jump with a mark of 13.29 meters. The pair of second place finishes came in the 55-meters with Marchand finishing in a time of 6.53 seconds and in the long jump when Hobson landed at 6.57 meters.

In total, the Peacocks competed and placed in all 12 events in which they entered. Complete UIU results are below.

Women's Highlights… The host Spartans of the Dubuque won the women's team race with 193 points, while Viterbo placed second with 120 points. The Peacocks scored 71 points to finish third ahead of fourth-place Cornell by 19 points.

Upper Iowa was led by a pair of first-place winners, two runner-up finishers and two athletes that placed third.
Cassiddy Wilson won the 600-meter race in a time of 1:43.25 besting her teammate
Christonna Shafranski, who came in second with a time of 1:49.97. Wilson paired with
Zakaria Fuller,
Jenna Ross and
Ellie Loesch in the 4x400 meter relay and posted the top time of the event at 4:17.97.
Madison Brownrigg pulled in UIU's additional second-place finish in the 1,000-meter race thanks to a time of 3:20.87. The two third place finishes came in the shot put after
Kiana Maghanoy tossed an shot for a mark of 10.58 meters and in the 4x400 meter relay when the team of Shafranski,
Jade Martin,
Kysta Ramirez and Brownrigg crossed the line in 4:31.97.

Up Next… Upper Iowa will head south this coming weekend to the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. Both the women and men's teams will compete in the Mule Relays in the Multipurpose Building on the campus of UCM from Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 4-6.
