The National Wrestling Coaches Association has released the 2019 Division II Scholar All-American Honorees. Upper Iowa wrestlers claimed 12 of the 212 student-athletes across 41 NCAA Division II institutions. The dozen Peacocks were second only to Maryville University, who claimed 15 places on the academic list.
Â
Leading the way for Upper Iowa's 12 honorees is
Cody Nelson, who earned a spot on the prestigious list for the fourth time. Nelson joined four other student-athletes across the country to earn the honor for the fourth time.
Â
The remaining 11 Peacock wrestlers to be tabbed as Scholar All-Americans are three-time award winner
Jamie Gehling, two-timers
Nick Baumler,
Tucker Black,
Aaron Maloy,
Dalton Nelson,
Tanner Prochaska,
Mac Spotts and first-timers
Jordan Baumler,
Connor Manderfeld,
Tate Murty and
Donny Schmit.
Â
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II All-Academic Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and 3.0 for those who earned All-American status for the 2019 season. The athlete must also have competed in a minimum of six dates of competition.
