Looking in the rearview… Last week, Upper Iowa posted a 3-2 record against the Concordia St.-Paul Golden Bears and the Sioux Falls Cougars. The Peacocks split their midweek doubleheader against CSP, winning game one 11-0 and then dropping game two 3-2. UIU returned home for a three game series against the Cougars over the weekend, splitting the first two games on Friday and taking the rubber match on Saturday with a 7-4 win.
Peacock Pitcher Praised… UIU right-hander
Duncan Snider was recognized by the
NSIC as the Pitcher of the Week after a pair of strong performances. Last week, Snider posted a 2-0 record against CSP and USF, throwing 13 scoreless innings and striking out 14. Snider held opposing batters to just a .170 average and picked up his first complete game shutout of the season.
Hit Streak Extended… Upper Iowa shortstop
Riley Braughton picked up a pair of hits between his two games against the Cougars over the weekend, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Over the course of his streak, Braughton is batting .444 with 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Braughton is now tied with
Zac Cain and
AJ Friedrich for the longest hit streak of the season.
Peacock Powerhouse… The UIU bats were propelled by first baseman
AJ Friedrich last week. In Upper Iowa's five games last week, Friedrich batted .450 and drove in 6 RBIs for the Peacocks. Friedrich currently leads the team with 26 RBIs on the season.
About the Warriors… Winona State will come to Fayette with a 17-18 overall record with their conference mark sitting at 9-13. The Warriors are led offensively by first baseman Sam Kohnle (.358/.442/.439) and infielder Tanner Williams (.311/.361/.455). On the hill, Winona has relied heavily on a pair of right-handers in Aaron Mutter and Dillon Whitaker. Mutter has posted a 3-2 record and recorded a 5.00 ERA over 45.0 innings this year, while Whitaker has gone 3-3 and has an ERA of 4.41 through his 49.0 frames.
The All-Time Series… The Peacocks and the Warriors have met 30 times since 2008 with Winona holding a slight edge in the series at 16-14. The Warriors have taken three straight from Upper Iowa including taking both games of last year's doubleheader which was played in Winona.
