No. 22 Upper Iowa played its final road match of the regular season against the Bemidji State University Beavers on Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks posted 25-22, 25-19, and 25-16 set scores to earn their 15th straight-set victory of the 2019 campaign, a new program record for most sweeps in a single season. Upper Iowa now has 19 wins this season, which surpasses last season's win total to become the second-highest mark in program history.
The Peacocks stay steady in 8th place in NSIC standings with a 19-7 overall record and 11-7 record against conference opponents. Bemidji State fell to 7-19 overall and 4-14 against league foes.
TURNING POINT… A 7-1 run at the end of the first set gave Upper Iowa a 25-22 set victory after trailing for a majority of the frame. The Beavers had claimed a 21-18 advantage before Upper Iowa scored four in a row to take the lead for the first time since the opening point of the frame. BSU tied the game at 22-all with a kill, but the Peacocks used a point-winner from
Claire Milnes, a double block from
Kaitlin Niedert and
Sarah Johnson, and a Beaver error to steal the first set 25-22. The momentum shift was just what the Peacocks needed to get ahead early in the second and third sets and cruise to a straight-set victory.
