The Peacocks will look to continue their conference success this weekend after beating Lindenwood in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon. Upper Iowa will host the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University on Friday afternoon, followed by the Northeastern State University RiverHawks on Sunday. The MIAA standings currently have the Peacocks ranked second with a 1-0 conference record and both Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State are behind with 0-1 records.
Sunday saw the Peacocks topping the Lindenwood University Lions 2-1 thanks to a late penalty converted by
Marko Cirko. The match also featured the first goal of the year for
Italo Martins Soares who lifted a beautiful long range shot over the top of the Lindenwood goalkeeper. Sunday's win brings Upper Iowa to 2-2-2 on the year and marks the Peacocks' first win over Lindenwood since the 2015 campaign.
The Peacocks are on a five game run where they have only allowed four goals to their opponents. During that time, Upper Iowa posted two shutouts and only lost one game for a 2-1-2 record. Peacock goalkeeper
Nikolai Gogol has been a big factor in the team's success during this stretch, coming up with 23 saves and posting a 0.80 goals against average.
About the Opponents
Vs Southwest Baptist… The Bearcats will come into Fayette looking for their first win of 2018 and their first victory at Pattison Field since 2012. Southwest Baptist has struggled so far this year, allowing 30 goals in seven games while only scoring three of their own. However, it is not from a lack of trying as Junior Josh Peloquin has taken a team high 19 shots for the Bearcats. The Peacocks will look to improve upon their 9-2-1 all-time record over Southwest Baptist.
Vs Northeastern State… The Peacocks will face tough competition in the Northeastern State RiverHawks who are 6-1 so far in 2018. Northeastern State features a number of players who have made impact on offense with 17 players recording points and 11 different goal scorers. Most notably is Senior Joe Garcia who has already tallied 21 points and 8 goals in just 7 games for the RiverHawks. Upper Iowa is well aware of how dangerous Garcia can be, scoring three times against the Peacocks throughout his career.
