The Upper Iowa men's soccer team will return to action after a ten-day break when they take on the William Jewell Cardinals Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff against the Cardinals is scheduled for 3pm, as the Peacocks will play their first home game of 2018 at Pattison Field. Sunday will see the Peacocks opening up conference play, taking on the Lindenwood University Lions in the first MIAA action of the season.
The Peacocks are coming off a three game undefeated stretch where Peacock goalkeeper
Nikolai Gogol made 14 saves and recorded a .933 save percentage. Upper Iowa has only conceded one goal during that run which featured back-to-back shutouts against Lewis University and Drury University.
A quartet of Peacocks have powered Upper Iowa's offense so far in this season. Sophomore
Tate Lofdahl leads the Peacocks with three points, scoring and recording an assist against Missouri S&T.
Aaron Morgan has also made his way onto the score sheet, finding the back of the net against UW-Parkside in the first game of the season. Sophomore
Dylan Mientus has also netted a goal for the Peacocks, scoring the game winner against Missouri S&T. Although he has not yet been able to put the ball in the back of the net, Sophomore
Italo Martins Soares leads the Peacocks in both shots and shots on goal with ten and five respectively.
About the Opponents...
Vs. William Jewell College... The Cardinals will come into Fayette with a 1-3 record, coming off a loss to No. 11 University of Indianapolis. The Peacocks will look to contain the Cardinals' Teddy Gifford who has scored three times and recorded an assist for William Jewell. Upper Iowa will also need to keep an eye on Drew Dempsey who has scored twice as well as assisting on one goal for the Cardinals. The Peacocks topped the Cardinals in their 2017 showdown in a 2-1 victory at William Jewell College.
Vs. Lindenwood University... The Peacocks will open up MIAA action against the Lindenwood University Lions Sunday at 1:30pm. The Lions were ranked third in the MIAA preseason poll, finishing just four points ahead of the Peacocks. Upper Iowa will be looking to secure early points in MIAA competition and their first win against the Lions since 2015. The 2018 season will be the final year that the Peacock's soccer program competes in the MIAA, moving to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for 2019.
