Travis Eggers to be Inducted into Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame

Former Peacock wrestling great Travis Eggers will be inducted into the Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame during the NCAA Division II National Championship weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this March. Eggers will be the first Upper Iowa wrestler to earn a place in the distinguished Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame.

Former Peacock wrestling great Travis Eggers will be inducted into the Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame during the NCAA Division II National Championship weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this March. Eggers will be the first Upper Iowa wrestler to earn a place in the distinguished Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame.
 
Eggers joins fellow wrestlers Tervel Dlagnev of the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Kyle Evans of the University of Central Oklahoma and Jason Rhoten of Minnesota State University, Mankato and the former head coach at Nebraska-Kearney Marc Bauer in the 2018 induction class.
 
12065The Monona, Iowa product reached the NCAA Championship title match as a junior and senior; Eggers claimed the 2010 NCAA Championship at 165 pounds leading the Peacocks to a third place trophy. The third place finish stands as the best finish for Upper Iowa at the NCAA Division II Championships. Eggers earned three NCAA All-American honors and won two of the three national semi-finals in which he appeared. He placed fourth in the nation in 2008 and second in the nation in 2009 (both at 157 pounds) before winning the title at 165 pounds as a senior.
 
Eggers wrestled for the NCAA Regional title in each of his four years in Peacock blue and white to qualifying for the NCAA Championships each time. As a senior, he broke through for his first NCAA Regional title and claimed the regional's Outstanding Wrestler honor.
 
Eggers earned the title of Northern Sun Conference Wrestler of the Year twice; once after his senior season and once after his sophomore campaign. He capped off his impressive career with a 26-3 mark as a senior including a perfect 20-0 record against NCAA DII opponents. Eggers' career ended with an 8-3 decision in the NCAA Championship title match running a win streak to 19 and moving his career record to 100-34.
 
"I'm so excited and honored that Travis is receiving this honor," said Head Peacock Wrestling Coach Heath Grimm. "To be recognized and inducted into the Jim Koch Division II Hall Of Fame is the absolute pinnacle for his career as an Upper Iowa wrestler."
 
Eggers will join an elite group of wrestlers that includes Olympic Champion Jeff Blatnik, two-time Olympic Silver Medalist Rich Sanders, World Champion Stan Dziedzic, NFL All-Pro Carlton Haselrig and Tbillsi Champion Wade Schalles, as well as Northern Iowa greats such as Jim Miller, Ken Snyder, Gary Bentrim, Kent Osboe, Bill Dotson, Don Parker and Mike McCready. Don Parker (1973-77) and Mike McCready (1985-99) both coached at Upper Iowa.
 
The NWCA's Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame induction and reception will take place on Mar. 8 at the Parlor Ballroom on the top floor of the DoubleTree in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
