The Peacock wrestling duo of
Lawson Losee and
Ethen Doty competed on the first day of the NCAA DII Men's Wrestling Championships on Friday in Indianapolis, Ind.
Losee (174) went 2-0 on the day, advancing to Saturday's competition as an All-American and guaranteeing a 6
th place finish as a sophomore. The 174-pounder started the event with a 9-4 decision over Clinton Morrisette (King (TN)). He then posted a win by an 11-7 decision versus Augustus Dalton (Colorado Mesa). Losee earns his first All-American recognition and is set to face #5 Cole Ritter (Maryville) tomorrow morning.
A win for Losee in his first match tomorrow would advance him to the championship bout. A loss would send him to the other section of the bracket, where he still has the opportunity to finish as high as 3
rd place.
Doty (149) wrapped up his junior season after surpassing the 30-win mark. He started the day with a victory over Dylan Brown (Central Okla.) in a 9-5 decision before falling to Chris Donathan (Grand Valley St.) by tech fall in the quarterfinals. The 149-pounder wrestled Jackson Hoover (UIndy) in the consolation bracket but came up short in a 6-0 decision.
Action is set to begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CT), with the championship finals set for 6 p.m. (CT).
