The Upper Iowa men's soccer team fell to the Lindenwood University Lions 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Peacocks to 3-6-2 on the year and 2-3 against MIAA opponents. Upper Iowa will move to third in the MIAA standings while the Lions will leapfrog the Peacocks and into second place.
A big day for Lindenwood's Joshua Scholl as he recorded a hattrick to put the Lions up to a 4-0 lead. Shortly after Scholl's third goal, Upper Iowa's
Seth Russell was able to put the Peacocks on the board with his first goal of the season.
Efrain Gonzalez Jr. played the ball in for Russell who was able to run on to it and beat the Lindenwood keeper.
The Peacocks were out shot 20-12 on the afternoon with the Lions getting 14 shots on target to the Peacocks 4. Upper Iowa goalkeeper
Nikolai Gogol had a very busy day in net, coming up with 10 saves against the Lions. The effort marks the third time this season where Gogol has made ten or more saves in a game.
The Peacocks will return to Fayette to take on Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday. Upper Iowa will open a three-game home stretch including a matchup against MIAA foe Fort Hays State.
