This Week in Peacock Volleyball… Upper Iowa is on the road again this week in Rolla, Mo. for five matches in the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building on the campus of Missouri University of Science and Technology. The Peacocks are one of eight teams competing for the title at the Middle of Everywhere Classic.

Let's Go to the Pool… UIU will play the host school on Thursday night and then enter the tournament in the gold pool. Four teams will compete in the gold pool and four more in the green pool. The final match of the event for each team will be based on their finish during pool play. Upper Iowa will face pool-mates Ohio Dominican University and #18 Washburn University on Friday and then line up against William Jewell College bright and early on Saturday morning before finding out who they will play against from the green pool in the teams' final match.

Ferris State All-Tournament Team… Three Peacocks were named to the Ferris State Invitational All-Tournament Team last weekend including
Malissa LeClaire,
Anna Winter and
Ashley Larson. LeClaire paced the offense with 119 assists (9.2/set) while picking up 36 digs and 8 kills. Winter led the attack at the net with 40 kills (3.1/set) followed closely by
Haley Weepie and
Haley Poula, who both tallied 33 kills apiece. Larson held down the back line with 72 digs (5.5/set) while Weepie added 46 to the cause.
Bethany Lovhaug recorded 29 kills and 12 blocks from her middle position.

Taking a Look Back… UIU started the season 4-0 at the Ferris State Invitational losing only one set in their four matches. The Peacocks swept Quincy University, Northern Michigan University and Davenport University over the weekend and claimed a 3-1 win over Grand Valley State University. The Peacocks hit .201 over the weekend limiting their attack errors to just 4.8 per set. UIU's defense was strong as well notching 20.2 digs/set and 1.46 blocks/set.

Scouting the Opponents… Missouri S&T went 1-3 this past weekend at the Bahama House Classic hosted by Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Miners lost to Barry University, Lynn University and Embry-Riddle, but scored a win over Oklahoma Baptist University.
Kyley Thompson led a balanced offensive attack during the weekend finishing with 38 kills and recorded a career-high 18 kills in the win over Oklahoma Baptist.Â
Sarah McGinnis averaged 6.92 assists per set, while
Corinne Stulce averaged 4.31 digs per set.

Ohio Domincan lost all four of their matches at a tournament hosted by Wayne State University in Michigan. The Panthers dropped decisions to Gannon University, Wayne State, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Minnesota State University, Mankato. Rebecca Skidmore led the team on offense with 23 kills, but the Panthers struggled to score hitting .031 in the four matches. Bailey Line handed out 80 assists, while Anna Ficker picked up 50 digs.

Washburn, ranked #18 in the latest AVCA Poll, completed its season opening with a 3-1 mark. The Ichabods loss to Arkansas Tech University was the first season-opening defeat since 1997 and ended the Ichabods' perfect 36-0 record during the rejuvenated Washburn Invitational. Washburn defeated East Central University, Western State Colorado University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis to close out their tournament. The 2017 Ichabods feature 11 underclassmen including seven true freshmen. Heading into this weekend's slate of games freshmanÂ

Kelsey Gordon top major defensive categories with Rottinghaus headlining digs (56) and digs per set (3.73) with Gordon doing the same in blocks (13) and blocks per set (0.87). JuniorÂ
Jade Hodge registered 10 services aces during the opening weekend including a career-best five aces against East Central.
William Jewell opened their season with a win over Black Hills State University at the University of Sioux Falls Invitational, but then dropped three straight matches against the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, Sioux Falls and Fort Hays State University. Grace Miller led the offense for the Cardinals with 45 kills and a hitting percentage of .358. The William Jewell offense will run through the hands of setter Alix Weigel, who came away from the opening weekend with 124 assists (8.3/set). Defensively, the Cardinals will rely on Olivia Tolbeard to continue her strong start with 77 digs (4.8/set).
