Upper Iowa Hosts Minot State to Open Home Slate

The Peacock baseball team welcomes the Beavers to Robertson Woods Field on Friday and Saturday for a pair of NSIC double headers.

This Weekend in Peacock Baseball... Upper Iowa welcomes the Beavers of Minot State University for this weekend's four-game, Northern Sun Conference series.  The games on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 25-26, will be the first conference match ups of the season for both squads.
 
Two Week Break... The Peacocks have been off the diamond for a game for the last two weeks.  Upper Iowa returned from Florida expecting to open their home schedule last weekend, Mar. 18-20, with a game against Bemidji State University and three with Concordia University, St. Paul, but temperatures and precipitation of many varieties forced those games to be cancelled.
 
Scouting the Beavers... Minot State is led by a pair of outfielders.  Jordan Schulz is hitting .404 this season with 23 hits, 19 rbi and 18 runs scored, while Kyle Williamson is hitting .385 with 20 hits, 13 rbi and 10 runs.  The Beavers have posted a .312 batting average with a slugging percentage of .480 with 53 extra base hits including 34 doubles.  On the mound, MiSU is led by their bullpen as the top four earned run averages have combined for just one start, but fourteen appearances.  As a team, Minot State has an ERA of 10.47 with 156 runs scoring against them in 110 innings; 128 of the runs were earned.
 
A Closer Look at the Peacocks... Upper Iowa opened the season with a dominant weekend in Memphis, Tenn. posting three big wins over LeMoyne-Owen College, but the team lost seven of their eight games in Clearwater, Fla. to fall to 4-7 overall. Cody Booker is pacing the offense with his .400 average while working behind the plate and taking on the designated hitter role as well.  Booker has six extra base hits including four triples and is slugging .650.  Anthony Calton is second on the team has also played in the majority of games and has an average of .382 with 13 hits, 11 runs and 10 rbi.  On the hill, the Peacocks are led by a trio of Peacocks including Mitch Moser (2-0, 2.04 ERA, 17.2 Inn,), Brett Fanning (1-1, 2.00 ERA, 9.0 Inn.) and Zach Carstens (0-0, 1 Save, 2.08 ERA, 13.0 Inn.).
 
Up Next... The Peacocks will stay in Fayette for a second four-game, NSIC series next Saturday and Sunday, April 2-3.  Both double headers will begin at 12 p.m.
