After starting with an opening day split, the Peacocks played three games in a 19-hour span across Saturday and Sunday, coming away with a win and two losses.
Upper Iowa started Saturday evening with a big 9-1 victory over Illinois Springfield.
Brooke Redmond got the win for UIU, tossing seven innings of one run ball, striking out eight while allowing just four hits.
Whitney Williams collected four singles in four at bats to lead the Peacocks, while
Riley Kruel had three hits and scored three runs.
Jacqueline Flood also had three hits and brought three around to score.
In the night cap, UIU faced the hot-hitting Lakers of Grand Valley State. The Peacocks surrendered a solo home run in the top of the first and a two-run double in the second to spot the Lakers an early 3-0 lead.
Upper Iowa chipped away at the lead when
Shelby Crist scored on a double steal the third inning, but GVSU responded with another homer in the fourth to start to pull away. The Peacocks had seven hits in the game, but couldn't seem to string them together, falling in the end 8-1.
In the final game of the tournament, UIU rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, but fell short against the host Lewis University, 5-3.
Lewis took advantage two errors by the Peacocks in the top of the second and turned four hits into five Flyer runs. The Peacocks got one back in the bottom of the second with a
Sammy Garrett double that brought Crist around to score.
Both teams combined for just three hits over the next four and a half innings, bringing UIU to the plate for their last at bats in the bottom of the seventh.
After Crist and Garrett started the inning with back-to-back singles, Flood came to plate with two outs and runners still just on first and second. She hit a double to center, scoring two and bringing the game-tying run to the plate, but
Lauren Marlinghaus struck out to end the game.
The Peacocks head to Joplin, Mo. next weekend for the Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament hosted by Missouri Southern State. UIU will play two games on Saturday, Feb. 28, and two more on Sunday, Mar. 1, starting with Washburn University at 10 a.m.
