THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S SOCCER
No. 25 Upper Iowa will head south to take on the Lindenwood University Lions in St. Charles on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Lions are currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Central Region Rankings, one spot ahead of the Peacocks. The top two programs from the NCAA rankings at seasons' end will qualify for the 2015 NCAA Championship. They will meet in the NCAA Round of 16 at the home of the top team from the Midwest Region, which is currently Rockhurst. UIU dropped their match with Lindenwood earlier this season 1-0 in Fayette and are now 0-7-1 against the Lions all-time.
LAST WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S SOCCER
This past week in Fayette, Upper Iowa (11-3-1, 4-2 MIAA) picked up the season sweep and second win all-time against No. 15 Northeastern State with a 3-1 victory on Friday afternoon. The Peacocks were forced to come back from a 1-0 deficit early in the second half, but rallied for three goals in the final 28 minutes. On Sunday, the Peacocks picked up a Senior Day win defeating the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 3-1. With the victory, UIU earned it's 11th win, matching the school record for the most wins in a season since Upper Iowa moved up to NCAA Division II.
RANKINGS SUMMARY
The Peacocks men's soccer team returned to the national rankings this week, checking in at No. 25 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Poll. UIU was ranked as high as No. 12 in the poll on Sept. 29, but have now returned to the polls after a two week hiatus. Upper Iowa also climbed up to No. 2 in the NSCAA Central Region Poll and No. 3 in the NCAA Central Region Rankings after being fourth in both rankings last week.
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER
1 DEJA VU: With the wins over Northeastern State and Southwest Baptist, the Peacocks once again own their own destiny. After defeating NSU and SBU ealier this season, the Peacocks fell to Fort Hays State and Lindenwood.
2 MIAA STANDINGS: UIU sits in second place in the MIAA standings with 12 points at 4-2. Lindenwood is just one point ahead of the Peacocks with 13 points at 4-1-1. Northeastern State (3-3) is in third with 9 points, while Fort Hays State (2-1-1) is in fourth with 7 points. Johnny McBeth has picked up his level of play over the last six games, scoring a pair of goals and adding five assists over that period of time. UIU is 4-2 over that span and have outscored opponents 17-7.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
vs. LINDENWOOD: The Lions is 8-5-2 overall, but 4-1-1 in conference. LWU picked up a pair of wins last week against Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State to hold onto the top spot in the MIAA.
