Upper Iowa used last night's near setback, a 19-18 win decided by criteria at SMSU, to propel them to a big victory on the road Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn.  The Peacocks, ranked No. 6 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, registered a 28-6 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead in an NSIC dual to improve to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference.  UIU won eight of the ten matches including four major decision victories.

The Peacocks jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a 13-3 major decision by Chris Paulus at 125 pounds and a 5-3 decision from Trevor Franklin (#2 NWCA) at 133 pounds.

MSU Moorhead answered with a decision at 141 pounds; Matt Paulus came up four points shy in the match as a reversal and near fall points proved to be his downfall.

Upper Iowa then won six straight matches to put the dual away.  Jordan Rinken scored a 10-2 major decision at 149, while Bryce Lumzy was solid in an 8-1 decision at 157.  Wade Gobin (#4 NWCA) earned a hard fought 3-2 decision at 165 pounds before Blake Sorensen earned the night's third major, 17-7, as the sophomore scored several takedowns.  Brock Gobin scored a takedown on the edge of the circle for a 3-1 decision in sudden victory at 184 pounds before all eyes turned to the nation's top-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds.

Carl Broghammer won his 18th straight match to improve to 34-2 overall.  He carried a five-match win by fall streak into the dual, but couldn't extend that streak.  Broghammer, did however, dominate his match to the tune of a 15-1 major decision. 

The Dragons posted the final win of the night at heavyweight as Jeremy Brazil fell in a 5-1 decision.

Upper Iowa will travel to Augustana College on Friday night, Feb. 8, and then return home to face St. Cloud State on Sunday, Feb. 10.  The dual with St. Cloud State, which begins at 2 p.m., will also act as both Senior Day and Alumni Day for the Peacocks wrestling program.
