Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association Match
Fayette, IA || Pattison Field || 3 p.m.
THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOCCER… After splitting their matchups against two of the top teams in the conference, the Peacocks (5-4-1, 2-1-1 MIAA) will play one final game before talking a week off. UIU will host Clarke University (1-10, 0-3 MCC) in Fayette on Pattison Field at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. This game will have added significance for Head Coach
Jason Carlson and UIU forward
Aaron Calkins. For Carlson, he coached Clarke to a program-high 10 wins last season and part of that was thanks to his star forward Aaron Calkins. As a Crusader last season, Calkins netted a team-high ten goals and added an assist through 18 games.
THE SERIES… Wednesday will mark the fifteenth meeting between the Crusaders and the Peacocks. UIU has won four of the last five meetings between the teams and overall, they own an 8-4-2 record in the series. The Peacocks fell to Clarke last season by a score of 3-1.
LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP... Andres Cuesta netted his second goal of the 2012 season in the 15th minute of the Peacocks' and Crusaders' matchup last year. His goal gave UIU a 1-0 lead, but it didn't hold for long. The Crusaders bounced back with an equalizer before halftime tying the game at 1-1. In the second half, they took full control of the game scoring two goals to steal a 3-1 victory on Pattison Field.
HELLO WISCONSIN!… Sophomore
Aaron Calkins has been red-hot for the Peacocks during the past two games. The Fond du Lac, Wisconsin native earned both of the Peacocks first goals against Harding University and No. 6 Northeastern State University. The sophomore transfer from Clarke University is now tied for the team-high with four goals this year.
SEVEN – "ELEVEN"… Number 11
Rafael Pedroso has a total of seven points through ten games this year. His "always open" style of play has helped him earn a team-high five assists and a goal this year. That includes an assist in the Peacocks' victory over Harding University this past Friday.
THE RED HOT CHILI "PENAS"… Leandro Pena stole the show on Friday afternoon as he netted his second goal of the season in overtime to give UIU a 4-3 victory over visiting Harding University. The goal capped a three-score comeback and rocketed the Peacocks into second place in the MIAA with a 2-0-1 record. The Peacocks have since dropped into a tie for third place, but Pena's moment of glory remains a bright spot this season.
"PINKERTON" ASSISTANCE – OPEN "24" HOURS A DAY… No Peacock has more points through ten games this year than number 24
Ryan Pinkerton. The Apple Valley, Calif. native has ten total points and is tied for second on the team with three goals and four assists. In all, he has taken 24 shots and placed 10 of them on frame this season. His aggressive offensive nature has been a welcomed sight for Coach Carlson who says Pinkerton stretches the defense with his surprising burst of speed. That speed helped him net a goal against Harding University last Friday as the Peacocks defeated the Bison at home.
