Three seniors took the field for the final time in the Peacock uniform on Friday afternoon, but UIU could not muster a win. Truman State earned a goal on a quick counter-offensive play in the eighth minute of Friday’s MIAA conference match to sneak out a 1-0 victory at home.
Bulldog senior forward Andy Chapman scored his 13th goal of the season and the only goal of the match at the 8:05 mark to give Truman State an early 1-0 lead. UIU’s defense held strong from that point on, but the damage was done. That was all the Bulldogs needed to collect the victory.
Peacock goalkeeper
Jordan Bell and the rest of the UIU defense earned a second-half shutout, but the offense couldn’t keep up with the Bulldog attack. Bell finished with 13 saves in the match, giving him 121 total in 2012 – most in the MIAA.
Strong defense didn’t result in scoring opportunities the other way, though, as the Peacocks were outshout 25-11 in the match, including 14-4 shots on goal.
Peacock senior forward
Travis Willows, playing in his final game, took a team-high two shots on frame, but could not find the back of the net.
Andres Cuesta led UIU with three total shots.
It wasn’t only Willows who finished his collegiate career against the Bulldogs,
Jon Kluever and
Alan Martinez also played in their final match in the Peacock uniform.
With the loss, UIU falls to 5-13 overall this season. It was only the second time under coach Brian Bahl that the Peacocks finished below .500 on the year. UIU finished 2-8 in its first year in the MIAA conference.
The Peacocks will return nearly every starter for next season, including their two leading scorers
Rafael Pedroso and
Jason Bishop.
