For the second time this season the NCAA released its official regional rankings on Wednesday afternoon and UIU was placed in the top ten. After sweeping two NSIC opponents this past weekend, UIU claimed the sixth spot in the poll. The Peacocks, who were ranked eighth in the NSCAA rankings last week, are just one of four NSIC teams to make the top-ten list.
On Saturday, UIU tied the school-record for victories in a season with 12. The Peacocks defeated the Wayne State Wildcats on the road, 2-0.
Brooke Skaggs found the back of the net for the first time all year in the first half against WSC, while
Jill Schechinger sealed the victory with her goal in the second period. UIU then proceeded to break the record one day later as the Peacocks earned their 13
th victory this season as they defeated the Augustana Vikings in double-overtime, 1-0, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Catherine Bunting netted her first collegiate goal against the Vikings in the 103
rd minute to clench the victory and move into sole possession of the school-record. The Peacocks have two more chances in the regular season to improve upon the record and at least one chance in the NSIC Conference championship.
The Peacocks will travel to St. Paul Minnesota to take on Concordia University this Friday night at 7 p.m. in Sea Foam Stadium. UIU will then host the No. 1 team in the nation Minnesota State, Mankato on Sunday in the final regular-season match of the 2012 season. UIU will celebrate senior day after the game for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Catherine Bunting,
Vicki Booth,
Elizabeth Kaluzinski,
Alyssa Petersburg and
Valeria Ptasinski will be the honored seniors after the game, as well as
Jon Kluever,
Alan Martinez and
Travis Willows from the men’s team.
