Upper Iowa fell for the third straight time in the NSIC after a 25-17 loss on the road in Moorhead, Minn.  The #10 Peacocks won four straight matches in the upper weights, but failed to win any other match as the Dragons of MSU Moorhead took the NSIC tilt after rallying from behind.  Upper Iowa finishes the season at 5-6 in dual action and 3-4 in NSIC duals this season.

After the Dragons picked up decisions at 157 pounds and 165 pound, the home team had a 6-0 lead, but the Peacocks stormed back quickly.  Mark Mueller (#8 NCAA) got Upper Iowa on the board with a 10-4 win over Trent Sovde in the 174 pound match.  Mueller trailed 3-1 heading into the final period, but an escape, a pair of takedowns and two nearfall points fueled the 10-4 win.

Mitch Schultz (#8 NCAA) made the most of his return to the mat with a technical fall, 15-0 (5:00), over Jacob McLean in the 184 pound match.  Schultz posted a takedown in each of the two periods wrestled; the Postville, Iowa native used five separate nearfalls to score his big win and giv e UIU a 8-6 lead.

Carl Broghammer (#8 NCAA) continued the domination of the upper weights with a 9-0 major decision over Brian Woelfel in the 197 pound match.  The redshirt freshman led 5-0 heading into the final period thanks to a takedown and three nearfall points.  Broghammer added an escape, a takedown and a ride time point (3:24) to post the win.

Zach Rosol (#4 NCAA) was leading 3-0 in the heavyweight match when his opponent Jon Swart had to withdraw from the match in the second period.  Rosol picked up the win by medical forfeit and Upper Iowa moved out to an 18-6 lead.

The Peacocks forfeited the 125 pound match which closed the gap to 18-12.  Kyle Pedretti (#4 NCAA) lined up with Evan Forde at 133 pounds.  The pair of wrestlers each scored an escape, but nothing more as the match moved to a sudden victory period.  Forde scored a takedown midway through the overtime period. 

Upper Iowa was assessed a team penalty point following the match which closed the gap even closer.  MSU Moorhead only trailed by two, 17-15, with two matches to go.

J.R. Baker took the mat at 141 points looking to provide UIU with the points they needed for the win.  Baker and his opponent, Brady Schneeberger (#3 NCAA) scored at a furious pace in the first period.  Baker trailed 9-7 heading to the second period.  Near the end of the second period Baker could not continue and lost the match by medical forfeit. 

With a 21-17 lead, Tyler Steinwand put the dual away for the Dragons with a 13-4 major decision at 149 pounds. 

Tonight's dual with MSU Moorhead was the Peacocks' final tune-up prior to the NCAA Super Regional III in Sioux Falls, S.D. The regional will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27, and features ten wrestlers from each of the eight NSIC teams, as well as ten wrestlers from Indianapolis, Newman, and Wisconsin-Parkside. Of the 110 wrestlers competing, only 40 (four per weight class) will qualify to represent their institutions at the NCAA Championships in Kearney, Neb. on March 11-12.
