Sara Vance became just the second member of the Thousand-Thousand Club at Upper Iowa. The senior from Tampa, Florida notched her 1,000th dig in the third set of tonight's loss to Minnesota State. Vance joins recent graduate, Shea Meyermann, as the only Peacock volleyball players in history to reach this milestone.
Upper Iowa came out on fire in the first set hitting .370 while forcing the #19 Mavericks of Minnesota State into a poor -.111 hitting percentage. The home team walked away with a 25-12 win in the first set, but their guests bounced back in the second set. The 25-22 win for the Mavericks was a back and forth battle filled with quick sideouts. Both teams hit well; MSU posted a .458 percentage, while UIU hit .385. After the intermission, the Peacocks hitting wavered and fell off its high percentage from the first two sets. The Mavericks picked up wins of 25-18 and 25-19 to close out the match.
Vance led the UIU attack with 11 kills and added 12 digs on defense.
Skylar Lesan handed out 36 assists for the match, while
Nicky Brown added 14 digs and
Kristy Hinrichs got to 13. Both teams blocked well in the match;
Kayla Wagner led the way for UIU with 1 solo block and 4 assisted blocks.
The Peacocks, now 13-10 overall and 6-7 in NSIC action, will have to regroup quickly to battle the #9 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State at 3 p.m. in Dorman Gym.
