This Week in Men’s Basketball...

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference is still feeling the effects of the winter weather system which moved through the area last week as this weekend’s games will move from the traditional Friday-Saturday setup and instead, will be played Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday, UIU heads to St. Cloud, Minn. to take on the Huskies of St. Cloud State before facing Concordia-St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. on Sunday.  Tipoff for both games is set for 4 p.m.

Scouting the Huskies

Losers of two of their last three, the St. Cloud State University Huskies enter Saturday’s matchup with a 5-6 record overall which includes a 4-3 mark in NSIC play.  The Huskies lost in their last outing on Tuesday at Wayne State, 69-53.

St. Cloud leads the league in assists per game with 15.27 and rank second in blocked shots with 3.55.  Only MSU Moorhead averages more blocked shots than SCSU.

The Huskies boast the seventh-best scorer in the NSIC in senior Taylor Witt.  Witt averages 17.6 points per contest and is converting 40.9% of his tries from the field.

Scouting the Golden Bears

Concordia University, St. Paul enters Saturday’s matchup with Winona State with a 7-4 record overall and a 4-3 mark in league play after dropping their latest matchup at Augustana on Tuesday, 75-65.

Courtney Tyler leads the Golden Bears with 14.3 points per game and is making 46.2 of his tries from beyond the three-point arc.

Series History

Since transitioning to NCAA Division II, the Peacocks are 0-6 when playing St. Cloud State and 3-5 against the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul.

The Last Meeting

The Peacocks and Huskies last met on December 5, 2009 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  SCSU defeated Upper Iowa 80-65.

The Peacocks took both meetings with Concordia-St. Paul last season.  The last meeting occurred on February 27, 2010 in Fayette when UIU won, 80-77.

Looking Ahead

The Peacocks return home next weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchups inside Dorman Gym.

On Friday, Jan. 14, the Peacocks welcome the Dragons of MSU Moorhead to Fayette before the Golden Eagles of UM, Crookston visit northeast Iowa on Saturday.  Tipoff for both tilts is slated for 8 p.m.
