UIU men’s soccer succumbs to No. 22 Missouri S&T

Freshman Camargo took three shots, including a shot on goal, early in the game

ROLLA, Mo. - The Peacocks (0-1-2, 0-1 GLVC) lost 1-0 to Missouri S&T (3-0, 1-0 GLVC) on Friday. Forward Sebastian Camargo took three shots, with one on goal.

Missouri S&T secured a 1-0 lead after knocking a ball in off the top center of the crossbar during the 38th minute of the game. The goal came from forward Kellen Douglas. The Miners held on to win the rest of the game. 

UIU took a total of five shots, two in the first half and three in the second. Upper Iowa's one shot on goal came from Camargo in the ninth minute when he shot the ball towards the lower part of the net. S&T shot a total of 22 times, 11 in the first and 12 in the second. 

The game was a physical one, as there were a total of seven yellow cards, five by the Peacocks and two by the Miners. In addition, Upper Iowa received a red card. UIU racked up nine fouls, while S&T racked up 14. 

Camargo collected three shots, with one on goal. Defender Arnas Kurakinas and midfielder Matas Dumalakas each had a shot. Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen posted three saves. Forward Jannik Schlegel, defender Rayan Lafon, Nymark-Pedersen and Kurakinas all played 90 minutes. 

Douglas recorded a goal and three shots, with two on goal. Midfielder Jack Steele took three shots, while midfielder Brendan Owens took two shots. Goalkeeper Cavitt Bruhn boasted a save. 

The Peacocks play next on Wednesday, Sept. 9, against Missouri St. Louis (1-1). UIU then hosts its first home contest on Saturday, Sept. 12, against McKendree (Ill.) (1-2).
