UIU falls to UMSL, drops second straight GLVC contest

Junior Nagy netted his second goal of the season

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Peacock men's soccer (0-2-2, 0-2 GLVC) lost to Missouri-St. Louis (2-1-1, 1-0-1 GLVC), 3-1, on Wednesday. Midfielder Timur Nagy netted the Peacocks lone goal during the 68th minute of the game.

Upper Iowa responded with a goal of its own in the 68th minute to make the final score 3-1 after the Tritons committed a foul nearly 30 yards from goal. Nagy found the back of the net with his right foot, sending the ball toward the upper-left corner and past the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper. 

Missouri-St. Louis took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute on a goal from midfielder Max Matviyiv. Defender Gibson Hunt set him up the score, driving the ball down the left side of the goalie box before finding Matviyiv for the finish. 

UMSL's midfielder Brady Freeman extended his team's lead to 3-0 with after scoring two goals in the second half. His first goal came in the 64th minute, when he scored from the middle of the pitch off a pass from midfielder Adel Abudayeh, finding the lower-left corner of the net. Just a minute later, Freeman added his second goal on a header that he drilled toward the upper-right corner of the net. 

Nagy added his second goal of the season. Forward Rodrigo De La Fuente recorded a shot. Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen posted four saves. 

Freeman ended the game with three shots on goal and two goals for the Tritons. Matviyiv mustered a goal. Hunt had a shot on goal and two assists. Abudayeh totaled two shots with one on goal and an assist.

UIU recorded five shots with one on goal and a goal, while UMSL recorded eight shots with five on goal. The Peacocks committed 14 fouls and received a red card. Tritons totaled 10 fouls and were given three yellow cards. 

Upper Iowa hosts its first home game of the season against McKendree (Ill.) (1-3, 0-1 GLVC) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 12 p.m. The Peacocks then stay home to face Lincoln (Mo.) (1-0-2, 0-0-1 GLVC) on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 2:30 p.m.
