FAYETTE, Iowa - UIU women's soccer (0-5-3, 0-5-1 GLVC) suffered an 8-0 loss to Maryville (Mo.) (3-4-2, 3-1-1 GLVC) on Wednesday evening. Eight different Saints players scored a goal in the game.
Four goals came in the first half, starting with Hailey Scheuer in the 25th minute. Sophia Carter scored in the 30th minute, Carissa Speight scored in the 42nd minute and Ava Ernst added a goal in the 44th minute. The second half saw four more goals by Gabby Tucker, Izzy Oldroyd, Lucy Cooper and Emily Doane.
The Peacocks were outshot 38-0, and Maryville had a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks. UIU committed 17 fouls to Maryville's six.
Avery Harding made nine saves in the net, playing 49:13. Suzette Orta made her collegiate debut with five saves in the remaining 40:47. Taylor Marie Inocelda-Bihag and Stephany Castillo played all 90 minutes on defense.
Speight led the Saints with four points after her goal and two assists. Isabella Lobley had three assists for the Saints. Oldroyd, Doane and Ernst each had a goal and an assist.
Upper Iowa is back at Harms-Eischeid Stadium on Saturday morning against Rockhurst (Mo.) (7-1-1, 5-1 GLVC). The Hawks picked up a 2-1 win on Wednesday night against Lincoln (Mo.) (3-5, 2-4 GLVC) and are tied for first in the GLVC standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Harms Family Field.
