FAYETTE, Iowa. - Peacock men's soccer (1-5-2, 1-5 GLVC) fell, 3-1, to Maryville (Mo.) (6-2-1, 4-0-1 GLVC) on Wednesday. Midfielder Timur Nagy netted his third goal of the season.
MU broke the ice during the 36th minute, taking a 1-0 lead off a goal from Peter Hanssen. Hanssen was assisted by midfielders Axton Anon and Stan Valentine.
Nagy evened the score for the Peacocks during the 55th minute. The junior fired a shot from 10 yards out on the right side of the pitch, sending the ball toward the upper-left corner of the net. Midfielder Pedro Campanha Buccini and forward Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba assisted Nagy on the goal.
Defender Simon Schlunder gave Maryville back the lead during the 59th minute after netting a goal off a pass from defender Jan Fulnek. Midfielder Julian Stoecker sealed the 3-1 victory for the Saints in the 85th minute after converting a penalty kick.
Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen posted two saves. Nymark-Pedersen, Kurakinas, defender Carl Wihelmsson, midfielder Matas Dumalakas and defender Rayon Lafon all played 90 minutes.
Hanssen, Stoecker and Schlunder each scored a goal. Fulnek had three shots, with two on goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Vidisson Asgrimur totaled five saves.
Upper Iowa had nine shots, with six on goal. Maryville mustered 11 shots, with five on goal. MU totaled three assists, while UIU totaled two assists. Peacocks led the Saints, 4-3, in corner kicks.
UIU recorded 15 fouls and two yellow cards. MU posted 13 fouls and three yellow cards
The Peacocks face Rockhurst (Mo.) (3-3-2, 2-1-2 GLVC) at home on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12:30 p.m. Upper Iowa then heads to Springfield, Illinois on Wednesday, Sept. 30 to square up with Illinois Springfield (0-6-1, 0-3-1 GLVC).
