FAYETTE, Iowa. - Upper Iowa men's soccer (1-5-3, 1-5-1 GLVC) drew, 3-3, with Rockhurst (Mo.) (3-4-3, 2-2-3 GLVC) on Saturday. Forward Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba scored a game-tying goal with 14 seconds left.
With 25 seconds remaining in the game, defender Arnas Kurakinas sent a long ball from the opposite side of the field toward Pedro Campanha Buccini following a throw-in from goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen.
Buccini headed the ball to Wellott Samba, who was positioned 10 yards out in the middle of the pitch. Wellot Samba then struck the ball with his left foot into the bottom-right corner of the net with 14 seconds left on the clock, securing the 3-3 draw.
Forward Sebastian Camargo gave Upper Iowa the early 1-0 lead during the fifth minute after knocking the ball into the bottom left side of the goal. He was assisted by forward Benjamin Wendel and Buccini.
The Hawks took a 2-1 lead into half after netting goals in the 17th and 21st minutes. The goals were scored by midfielders Riley Mcgill and Daniele Ciancaglini.
Forward Jannik Schlegel knotted the score at two apiece after scoring a goal during the 53rd minute. He shot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net after receiving assists from forward Timur Nagy and Buccini.
Defender Rhys Laws recorded a goal in the 70th minute to give RU a 3-2 lead. Forward Sam McIntosh was credited with the assist.
Camargo, Schlegel and Wellot Samba all scored their first goal of the season. Wellot Samba and Kurakinas both posted two shots. Kurakinas and Wendel each tallied an assist.
Nagy recorded a shot and an assist. Buccini led the team in assists with three. Nymark-Pedersen posted six shots. Nymark-Pedersen, Kurakinas, defender Carl Wilhelmsson, and defender Matas Dumalakas all played 90 minutes.
Mcgill mustered five shots with three on goal and a goal. Laws posted three shots with two on goal, a goal and an assist. Ciancaglini tallied a shot on goal, a goal and an assist.
There was a total of 30 shots in the game, 22 by Rockhurst and eight by Upper Iowa. RU had nine shots on goal, while UIU had four. There were nine corner kicks in the game, four by the Peacocks and five by the Hawks.
Upper Iowa fouled 13 times, compared to the Hawks who fouled four times. RU also recorded the games only yellow card.
Upper Iowa plays Illinois Springfield (0-7-1, 0-4-1 GLVC) on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. UIU then faces Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (4-3-1, 1-3-1 GLVC) on the road on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
