LAKE CITY, Minn. - The Peacock women's golf team posted its best placement since 2022 on Tuesday at The Jewel Invitational hosted by Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) UIU shot 312 (+24) on Monday and 322 (+34) on Tuesday for a total of 634 (+58) to tie for fourth place out of 12 teams at The Jewel Golf Club.
Addison Weber tied for seventh to lead the Peacocks with a score of 152 (+8). This was two strokes better than her score at last season's Jewel Invitational and is the second-best two-round score of her career.
The junior shot 74 (+2) on Monday and 78 (+6) on Tuesday to lead the Peacocks. She totaled 23 pars, tying for the fifth-most by any golfer at the tournament. Weber also had a team-high three birdies, tying for the 11th-most. She tied for the third-best score on par fours at the tournament. She also excelled at par threes, finishing one-over-par on those holes.
Sophomore Fern Babinski took 21st after shooting 159 (+15), improving her score from her freshman season at The Jewel by 14 strokes. She shot a team-best 77 (+5) in the second round, tying for the lowest round of her career at last season's McKendree (Ill.) Bearcat Dual Gender.
Babinski tied for the seventh-best score in the tournament on par fives, shooting even. She totaled 20 pars and added two birdies, both on Monday. She recorded 14 pars in the second round on Tuesday.
Morgan Krall tied for 22nd for the best placement of her young career. She posted rounds of 78 (+6) and 82 (+10) for a total of 160 (+16). Krall had birdies on holes six and 13 on Monday, and tallied 19 total pars.
Fabiana Barrero Campo also shot 78 (+6) in the first round and had a score of 85 (+13) in the second round to tie for 28th with a total of 163 (+19). She posted 18 pars and two birdies for the Peacocks. Kathryn Ballard rounded out the team tying for 56th with a score of 181 (+37).
The Peacocks tied for fourth with Minnesota State, who finished in third place at last week's Maverick Fall Brawl. As a team, Upper Iowa had the third-best score on par fives at +15, and tallied the fourth-most pars with 89.
Augustana (S.D.) won the tournament with a team score of 610 (+34). The school from the other side of town, Sioux Falls (S.D.), finished second at 615 (+39). Concordia-St. Paul took third, one stroke above the Peacocks and Mavericks at 633 (+57). Southwest Minnesota State was 14 strokes back in sixth at 648 (+72).
CSP's Addi Wood took first once again after tying for it at last week's Fall Brawl. She shot 146 (+2). Winona State's Megan Young took second at 148 (+4), and Augustana's Carmen Jirele finished third at 149 (+5).
The Peacocks have a shorter turnaround than normal this week, heading to the EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invite on Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27. The tournament is hosted by Southwest Minnesota State and takes place at the Marshall Golf Club.
