MARSHALL, Minn. - Upper Iowa women's golf wrapped up play at the EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invite this weekend with a third-place finish. Morgan Krall, Addison Weber and Fabiana Barrero Campo all finished in the top 15 for the Peacocks.
"I'm really proud of the gals this week," said head coach Mike Lewis. "It was truly a team effort. They are really pushing each other in a positive way to get better every day."
Krall posted a 74 (+2) on Sunday after a 78 (+6) on Saturday for a total of 152 (+8). That marks the lowest score of the freshman's young career, and the 74 (+2) on Sunday was her lowest round of the season. She finished the tournament tied for sixth place, the highest finish of any Peacock this season.
She shot two-over-par on par fours and one-over-par on par fives, each tying for the third-best scores at the tournament. Krall totaled three birdies and had a team-high 22 pars, tying for the eighth-most pars in the tournament. All three of her birdies came on the front nine.
Weber took 13th after shooting the lowest individual round of any Peacock golfer with a 73 (+1) on Sunday. That ties for the second-lowest individual round of her career. After a double bogey on her fourth hole of the day, the junior responded with back-to-back birdies. Weber finished the day with three birdies.
She finished with a total score of 156 (+12). Weber tied for the seventh-best score on par fours at three-over-par. Her three birdies tied for the ninth-most at the tournament, and she added 19 pars, tying for the second-most on the team.
Barrero Campo finished 14th after posting the best score for the team on Saturday with a 76 (+4), marking the best round for the freshman on the season. She finished with a score of 157 (+13). Barrero Campo led the team in birdies with four, with three on Saturday.
The freshman's four birdies tied for the fifth-most at the tournament. She tied for the third-best score at the tournament on par fives, shooting one-over-par.
Fern Babinski tied for 28th with a score of 163 (+19). She shot 77 (+5) for UIU's third-best score on day one. That tied for her career-low score and marks the second time she's hit it this season. Babinski totaled two birdies and tied for the second-most pars on the team with 19.
Kathryn Ballard tied for 47th with a total of 170 (+26). She improved by 14 strokes on day two, posting the team's fourth-best score on Sunday with a 78 (+6). Sunday's round marked her lowest of the season. Kiley Broderick competed individually for the first time this season, placing 72nd.
"Morgan tying for sixth early in her journey is great to see," Lewis said. "Fabiana leading us yesterday in round one was great. Addison had a great bounceback in round two, and it was awesome to see her resilience and toughness. I was also really glad to see Kathryn break into the 70s in round two."
The Peacocks totaled a team score of 625 (+49) in third place. UIU improved by 21 strokes on Sunday, shooting 302 (+14) after Saturday's 323 (+35). The Peacocks finished 14 strokes ahead of Chadron State (Neb.) in fourth place.
Finishing third out of 12 teams marks the highest placement for the program at a tournament featuring 10 or more teams since the 2022 NSIC Tournament. After tying for fourth at The Jewel on Tuesday, the Peacocks have posted back-to-back top-five finishes in tournaments with 10 or more teams since the fall of 2022.
Augustana (S.D.) won the tournament, shooting 599 (+23) after a 293 (+5) on Sunday. Sioux Falls (S.D.) took second at 610 (+34) with a 298 (+10) on Sunday.
Augustana's Carmen Jirele and Payton Drefke, along with Sioux Falls' Sophia Karsnia, all tied for first place with a score of 148 (+4). Jirele earned the medalist honor via the low-round tiebreaker as she shot 71 (-1) on Sunday.
The Peacocks head to the outskirts of Chicago in Lemont, Illinois, for the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate hosted by Lewis (Ill.). The tournament takes place at Cog Hill Golf Club on Oct. 5-6.
